Treat Yourself: My Titleist GT Woods Fitting Experience

It’s often said that a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day in the office. But I’ll tell you what – a day at a Titleist fitting is right up there with the best days on the course.

Showing Up Early with Excitement

Last year, I was fit for the new Titleist GT woods during one of their fitting days. To say I was excited would be an understatement. The driver had always been a bit of a weak spot in my game, and with all the buzz about the new GT lineup bringing an all-new material and updated designs (Titleist’s multi-material design with improved speed and forgiveness across the GT2, GT3, and GT4), I showed up early, eager to get started.

As I waited, I watched the Titleist crew arrive with their vans, tents and full setup. There’s something about that scene that makes you feel like you’re in for something special. You’re not just trying clubs; you’re getting an experience and the excitement builds before you even make your first swing.

Learning About the New GT Lineup

Despite the GT lineup being out for a while now and there being a few leaks online, the reps themselves were genuinely pumped. They talked us through what had changed with the new woods, how the designs were optimized and what golfers could expect from each model. I love that energy – when you can see that even the people who work with this gear every day are excited about it, you know it’s going to be good.

Finding the Right Driver Head

Then came the fun part: hitting.

We started with the GT2, moved to the GT3 and finally to the GT4. It didn’t take long to figure out that the GT2 was the right choice for me. Honestly, when I first swung the GT3, I almost thought we’d skipped ahead to the GT4 with how compact it looked. That just goes to show how sleek the GT2’s profile is. Clean, confidence-inspiring and classic Titleist.

Dialing in the Perfect Shaft

Once the head was dialed in, we shifted focus to shafts. We began with what I’d been playing, which, let’s just say, wasn’t doing me any favours. From there, we tested a few other options until we landed on the perfect match for my swing.

What stood out most was how the fitter approached this process. He didn’t announce every tweak he made, but he explained his general method and what he was looking for with each change. It was a conversation – my feedback combined with his expertise to find what worked best.

That, to me, is where Titleist fittings stand above the rest. They aren’t there to judge your swing or push you into something because it’s new. They’re there to make you better with what you bring that day. Whether you’re a scratch player or a high handicapper, they treat you with the same respect and dedication to getting your setup right.

Testing for Fun and Confidence

Before wrapping up the driver, we tested one last shaft for fun – a combo I’d never tried before – but it quickly confirmed that the previous choice was the one.

Moving Into Fairway Woods

Then we moved into fairways. This process was a bit simpler. My fitter actually told me that my current gamer was a great fit and tough to beat, which I appreciated. No hard sell, just honest feedback. That said, we found that the GT2 3-wood gave me slightly more height and adjustability, which was exactly what I needed.

The Automatic 7-Wood

The final piece was the GT 7-wood. I’ll be honest – this club was just automatic. High, soft landing shots with ease. There are few things as satisfying as striping a 7-wood down the middle and watching it float to the target.

Walking Away Smarter

At the end of the session, I walked away feeling like a smarter golfer. That’s what I love most about Titleist fittings. Sure, you walk out with clubs that are fit to your swing, but you also walk out knowing more about why certain things work and what helps you play better. It’s knowledge you carry onto the course.

My Final Setup and Results

Here’s what I ended up with:

  • Driver: Titleist GT2 8 degree with Graphite Design AD CQ 5S

  • 3-wood: Titleist GT2 15 degree with Graphite Design AD CQ 6S

  • 7-wood: Titleist GT2 21 degree with Graphite Design AD CQ 7S

The results were immediate. I gained 16 yards of carry with the driver, hit more fairways and felt more confident over the ball. That confidence turned into enjoying the game more. After all, isn’t that what we’re all chasing?

Why You Should Treat Yourself to a Fitting

If you’ve never been to a Titleist fitting, treat yourself. No matter your skill level, it’s an experience that will leave you feeling like a better golfer – and on days when you’re holding a club in your hands and learning something new, there truly are no bad days.
